About By Miles
Car insurance in the UK is mandatory, unloved by customers and sold by incumbents as a product that’s barely changed in decades – creating an opportunity for ambitious new entrants.
The traditional vehicle insurance model doesn’t make sense for customers who don’t drive much. By Miles is giving control back to drivers, by showing them the cost of each journey as soon as it’s finished.
James and Callum founded the business in 2016 to provide fairer pricing, total transparency and policies that are easier to manage.
The By Miles premise is simple: you’re less likely to have an accident if you’re not driving. Customers pay a fixed annual cost that covers a car while it’s parked. They then simply pay for the miles they drive each month. It’s quick, too, giving customers a basic idea of cost in under a minute.
The result is better prices for low-mileage drivers than they could receive from incumbent insurers. These typically use low-mileage drivers to subsidise the higher cost of insuring riskier, high-mileage drivers.
By Miles customers are in control, with simple bills. Right down to the last penny.
