Alliott is CEO of Octopus Ventures. Octopus is one of Europe’s largest and most active venture investors with over £1.2 billion under management, investing £120m a year into early stage businesses.
Since Alliott joined in 2008, the firm has backed nearly 100 pioneering companies. He made seed and early-stage investments for eight years in London before moving to New York to set up the Octopus Ventures US practice. Alliott has worked closely with several of the founders of LoveFiLM as they went on to build new companies, such as graze, Tails.com, Zoopla and Cazoo, as well as investing in the founders of Secret Escapes, Rangespan, Big Health and Antidote. Under his leadership, the team has continued to evolve and now focuses on those entrepreneurs reimagining the future of health, the future of money and deep tech.
“It’s rare to find a true pioneer. But we’ve met enough now to know that individuals with the right drive and the right backing, can go on to achieve extraordinary success.”
Alliott’s journey to Octopus included four years at international law firm Ashurst LLP, with stints at NM Rothschild and IBM in London. Alliott holds a Masters in Classics from Oxford University and a postgraduate diploma in Law from BPP University, London.
