George Whitehead

George joined Octopus in 2011 and focuses on networks, marketing and public affairs, using his broad connections to help promote Octopus to pioneering entrepreneurs looking to rapidly scale their businesses. George is the co-founder of the Angel Cofund, a £100million Government backed fund focusing on co-investing with angel investors. He is also the co-founder of the Venture Capital Trust Association which represents 85% of the VCT industry with a combined £3.3billion under management.

Prior to Octopus George held the position of Business Development Director at NESTA Investments’ £50 million Venture Capital Fund where he ran a portfolio of programmes aimed at supporting growth companies. He began his career as an investment manager at Oxford Innovation, where he managed the Oxford Investment Opportunity Network (OION), one of Europe’s most successful private investment networks, before moving on to successfully turn around and manage the incubations programme for the University of Toronto’s Technology Transfer Office. George holds a degree in Human Geography from University of Leicester and spends his free time in the countryside enjoying a family and a farm.
